CBD oil for dogs with hemangiosarcoma?

CBD oil, also called CBD hemp oil, is a non-psychoactive oil made from the hemp plant. Unlike medical marijuana, which has high concentrations of THC, cannabidiol has a low concentration.

CBD oil seems to be getting a lot of interest recently, due to its apparent anti-inflammatory qualities. Of course, there are benefits and dangers, as with any supplement.

I came across the following reference to CBD oil as a complementary treatment for dogs with hemangiosarcoma. We have not used it and can’t vouch for the quality of the advice in the article, but I know some of you following Missy’s journey want to know what options are out there.

Please consult with your vet before giving your hemangio dog any treatment, as your dog is immuno-compromised and your vet can help you weigh risks and benefits:

  1. Hi Tammy,
thank you so much for sharing your journey! My baby was diagnosed with splenic hemangiosarcoma 11 months ago and she is still with us! Along with diet change and acupressure-massage, we felt herbs were an instrumental part in her healing. One of those herbs includes cannabis. She started on concentrated CBD oil and then progressed to Rick Simpson oil (RSO– (cannabis concentrate oil with high levels of CBD and THC). Doses start off small and work their way up. I truly believe that cannabis along with the other powerful herbs she takes, contributed to her wellness today. Our other pup, whose does not have cancer, also takes small amounts of RSO to help with aching joints. Cannabis is a special plant with amazing benefits. I would wholeheartedly suggest cannabis for healing and pain.

I appreciate hearing about your experience with CBD oil and cannabis to support your dog’s cancer fight. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I do hope you’ll keep me posted on your dog’s health over the coming months (and years).

    1. I’m sorry to hear that your fur baby was just diagnosed. Hemangiosarcoma is a rough journey to be sure, but also a chance to make sure our dogs know how much we love and treasure them.

We didn’t give Missy much in the way of herbs. Here’s a rundown of what we fed her: Missy’s hemangiosarcoma diet.
